Truck Enforcement
Currently, we have four Officers from our Traffic Enforcement Unit and Patrol Division that are trained in the enforcement of laws regulating weight limitations for commercial vehicles. Equipped with portable scales, officers can stop and weigh trucks on the road.
The enforcement of these regulations helps to reduce the number of overweight commercial vehicles on our roadways and contributes to reducing costly roadway damage, which jeopardizes the safety of other drivers. The State Division of Highway’s data shows that one overweight truck causes the same amount of damage to the roadway as 9,600 cars.
The Oswego Police Department currently issues the oversize/weight permits. These permits may be picked up at the police department, faxed to you by request, or downloaded by clicking the link below:
